There are many types of scoliosis. Each of them are appointed and defined by age, the cause of scoliosis and curvature of the spine. There are two basic types of scoliosis, structural and nonstructural. Structural scoliosis is caused by neuromuscular diseases, infections, deformities, trauma, connective tissue diseases, metabolic diseases, rheumatic diseases, tumors and other unknown factors. Functional or structural scoliosis is justified by circumstances such asas the length of the legs, muscle spasms or inflammatory diseases, including appendicitis.

The most common form of scoliosis is based on the age of idiopathic scoliosis. As the word implies, the cause is unknown. It affects about 4% of the population, especially women. The reasons for the change in leg length, hereditary diseases, injuries, infections and tumors.

Idiopathic scoliosis is broken down into three categories: infants, children and young people. Infantscoliosis extends from birth to age three. Other types of scoliosis are congenital, neuromuscular and degenerative diseases. Congenital scoliosis is a rare type of scoliosis by an unusually shaped bone that caused at birth. It occurs during fetal development. The absence of vortices, partially formed vertebrae, the vertebrae are not formed normally, and the lack of separation of vortices that are the reasons for this. Neuromuscular Scoliosis is a lateral curvature of the spine occur because of muscle weakness or neuromuscular disorders such as cerebral palsy,Spina bifida, paralysis, spinal cord tumors, neurofibromatosis and myotonic dystrophy. Degenerative scoliosis occurs in adults due to the aging of the spine to weaken.

Scoliosis is classified according to the curvature of the spine. Sun thoracic scoliosis, lumbar scoliosis and thoracolumbar scoliosis can be found.
